The Tip Tornado started a trend in the early '90's which has progressively evolved into today's complex yet easy to use - low diameter sea rod. It is very rare that a range of rods can stand their own for over 15 years without any design changes The thinking originally was a reduction in rod diameter would help slice through the air and reduce drag. A low profile rod has the edge in transferring energy in the cast. There is a time in every cast where the bait accelerates from the launch point - that moment when the rod feeds back vital information to you and the release and compression are harmonised with directional control. The Tip Tornado always delivered this vital requirement with its unique action. The design also gave better stability in gusty conditions. The original spirit of the Tip Tornado design has been retained but advances in technology over the decades has enabled us to make the latest generation of Tip Tornado rods even better. By listening to sea anglers, integrating our experience in composite design and as makers of rods that hold all the significant World distance casting records – we think these latest rods will deliver significant benefits to sea anglers over the future decades.
The Tip Tornado Sport, Super Match, Match and LD models from September 2008 include the following upgrades:
Gearbox Design in the butt section making the action even easier to use.
Full length Japanese rubber shrink handle and separator grips at the joints.
Equal length sections for Sport, Super Match, Match, LD and Ultra Lite.
Tougher surface finish and new woven carbons in tip and butt.
Stainless steel etched trim bands at each end of butt.
Latest technology transfer from World casting distance records held between 1998 and 2008.
The Tip Tornado range benefits from Century’s unique Autoclave Technology – that delivers extended rod life and action retention.
Due to the worldwide shortage of certain sizes of Fuji BNHG guides – we have selected alternatives for the tip and butt guides. Our testing involved extensive salt water exposure and long term reliability assessments and we are fully satisfied with the results. We have selected these guides from the leading guide manufacturer - Kigan in Korea. We have used their guides on other ranges of our rods for many years and are impressed with their performance. Century strongly recommends these guides.
Tip Tornado Sport
The Sport has reached “cult” status in the light of hard won experience and decades of fishing. The butt slices through the air and in storm conditions the rod is stable and very secure. A positive Tournament pedigree with victories at UKSF however the Sport is above all else a practical and highly successful fishing rod for tackling hard and mixed ground. The essential tip action design is slightly enhanced to give better feedback and the Gearbox Design butt allows progressive power storage and delivery. It is capable of casting one, two or three baits plus 175gms - huge distances. Tip stability and bite detection are superb and it is sensitive even when scratching close in.

Tip Tornado Super Match
The Super Match owes much to a past legend in sea angling called Dave Docwra. Dave was an international angler with a vast amount of experience and records under his belt. His design input was embedded in Super Match and thousands of anglers have benefited from the unique action. Surprisingly the design is based on a slightly more powerful butt than the sport and a “tippier” tip than the Match! The new Super Match with Gearbox Design in the butt will deliver over both rough, mixed and smooth ground. It will appeal to the specialist who banks on winning and delight an angler who wants accuracy and needlepoint sensitivity.

Tip Tornado Match
The Match has a more flowing through - action for easy loading up during the cast and this also helps to prevent covering the beach with your precious bait. The big benefit to the pleasure angler and match angler alike is that it still retains the stable, super sensitive tip, which gives good bite detection. The Match is versatile because it is easy to cast and covers a wide variety of conditions. The original rods were prototyped on the Sound of Mull, Western Highlands where they really rattled dogfish and conger to depths of over 300’ with powerful tides. A proven Home and International Match winner when a gentle lob of a big pork pie size crab bait into the back of the breaking surf - got the desired results.

Tip Tornado LD
The Tip Tornado LD (Low Diameter) is just 0.83” (21.18mm) wide at the butt however its potential is huge. It has been summarized as a rod that casts all styles, casts a big wide range of weights, is slim, portable, good from the rocks on mixed ground, responsive on smooth open beaches, will protect worm baits at full tilt and will pretty much be a stick that can be just taken out fishing OR casting or both. It handles fast lateral current, casts effortlessly weights from 80g to 150g plus baits. The Gearbox Design enables this remarkable rod to operate so successfully and the feedback from anglers who already own this rod - is that it is destined to be a classic.

Tip Tornado Lite
The Lite has benefited from upgrades to durability and other visible enhancements however the design essentially stays the same as the original. If you want a rod that will cast 5 ozs overhead from the rocks or blast 4 ozs pendulum style from the shore this is the rod for you. Tolerant of conditions except the heaviest ground. Perhaps you want a rod that is ideal for schooling bass, the solitary lunker or even a super slim scratching rod to win a match: don’t forget heavy float fishing, spinning or dead baiting – it’s the master of these too. Some have said it’s the best Estuary rod available. The limits are undefined. The complex construction, born out of years of Tip Tornado heritage means that it is not only practical but also a pleasure to use. Derived from a SAMF Finals Winner and is a truly versatile 3-5oz-specialist sporting rod.

Tip Tornado Ultra Lite
The Ultra Lite has deceptive power despite its fine dimensions. There are many times when a standard beachcaster outguns the conditions. Inside calm estuaries, harbours and sea lochs there is a definite need for light gear which brings finesse to the situation. Changes within sea angling including variation in population numbers of many species means more fishing is done from the shore in summer style conditions. For small, plentiful fish the Ultra Lite brings big advantages including the use of lighter lines and bait presentation is smooth without the jerking action imposed by stiffer rods. Pressure on smaller hooks is also improved because the cushioning effect of the tip and bite sensitivity is better than ever. The Century Ultra Lite is great news for the angler who still wants to cast 4ozs and really enjoy a light high performance rod when bigger bonus fish are taken.
