Carbon Metal CCC LD (Low Diameter)

The C3 LD is based on a 0.75”" mandrel and the outside diameter is 0.91”" (23.5mm). The action of the rod produces a curve that looks like a letter C when under full compression. The tip recovery is very quick and accelerates the lead and bait to greater distance when pure fishing time over rides the need to spend months perfecting advanced casting skills. The prototypes and design feedback has all been through Danny Moeskop's hands and as you would expect from a man of his experience - his seal of approval means that you are assured of a very competent fishing tool. The overall weight of C3 LD is 750 grams (26 ¾ ozs) including the special Century reel seat and stainless coaster. It feels very light in the hand and balances well.

Small codling from shy bites, rays to 9lb and skate to 165lb have been landed on this rod. It’s versatile!

Carbon Metal

The Century C M (Carbon Metal) has surprised everyone who has tried it. The rod picks up the bait and propels it at great velocity via all casting styles and the tip recovers instantly ready to read the smallest bites or the hardest take. The clever tapers both in the mandrel and carbon fibres create power bands that alter the action to suit the venue and prey species. The action of the Carbon Metal is orientated towards a J curve when under compression reflecting the latent power in the butt section and lower tip. Cod, pollack, tope, conger, mullet and bass have all fallen to the CM during its 18 month development phase that took place from the depths of Loch Fyne, the rocks of Tynemouth to the smooth beaches of North West. Built with the toughness of Autoclaving and new advanced materials at a sensible price

Carbon Metal Express

The Carbon Metal Express - CME - was originally refined at UKSF and SIPS World Championships, taking a fixed spool reel - World Record in the process. (100gram - 0.28mm line - distance 225m). Since then CME has become one of a small band of classic rods that have won universal acclaim from anglers and voted best beach rod by the readers of Total Sea Fishing magazine.

The CME proscribes a parabolic C curve when fully compressed rather than the J curve of faster actions. This means that it is less critical on timing and the release of the cast. Bite detection is superb and the rod tip is stable in stormy conditions.

The CME reduces tiredness and can be repetitively cast without strain and has received exemplary reviews by knowledgeable anglers and casters.

Carbon Metal Crest

The Carbon Metal Crest - CMC – evolved from the Carbon Metal Express, Century Triple C and more than a little tournament winning experience. Many anglers told us they wanted a rod with a quick recovery in the tip and a compliant, forgiving butt suited to an improving caster looking to cast all the weight ranges. A tip that positively ensures the breaking out of sinker wires, delivers added lift to pull the sinker from the sea bottom and when the lead lifts, the contact is full and positive all the way back to the re-cast. The butt has to have enough feel to pull the hook on a good fish in heavy water, rough and mixed ground marks and it must be able to chuck a lead and bait to the horizon as well.

So where does it differ from say CME? The CMC isn't meant to be improvement on the CME rather an alternative for those who require a stiffer tip for rougher ground and those with tournament casting aspirations. It has undoubtedly been designed as fishing rod first but already tourney casters have recognized the potential. It works well with flat, OTG, overhead and high swing casting styles. The pivot or focal point in the butt is mid sectioned and the tip moves the weight instantly. The rod then develops into a shallow C curve as the cast develops.

This shape is also mirrored when hauling against big congers or with any good fish on board. The action and length keeps the terminal end up and away from snags with a rapid retrieve. The CMC really excels on the rocks where an overhead or side thump with a shortish drop - is mandatory. The tip remains steady even with a big lead and the C curve ensures everything remains calm and collected. The rod isn’t for wimps and it will give you lots of positive feedback if things get a bit pear shaped but more in the guise of a gentle nudge rather than biting your arm off.

Carbon Metal SRE (Sea River Estuary)

Century spent over a year working with Danny Moeskops - World Casting Champion and a leading Continental sea angler - designing Carbon Metal SRE. Available in two lengths 5.00m and 4.60m - it is a well thought out improvement of an existing principal - originally favoured by continental anglers.

Century Carbon Metals have established an outstanding track record with sea anglers and although these SRE's are a departure from OTG and Pendulum style casting rods - the distances available to overhead casters is substantial. Danny Moeskops has introduced several innovative ultra high modulus carbon fibre "accelerators" into the design to give high tip speed without the need to pre compress the tip before releasing energy stored in the butt. The bite detection from little rattles by small flatfish and slack liner bites are more than obvious. The rod forms a perfect C curve when under compression.

The 3 section SRE is for lighter fishing conditions and clearly does not have the huge hauling capability of the big Kompressors. This is reflected in the recommended line sizes of 6lb to 8lb or heavy lines (12 - 20lb) when using lighter snoods.

Variable reel positions on the butt are available using the Century winch fitting with SS Coaster. Light and easy to use at 5.00m and also available at 4.60m for less powerful casters. The 4.60m SRE has staggered butt and same middle and tip as 5.00m.

Carbon Metal BB

BB signifies “BlackBird” as Danny asked if we could and named after the legendary Lockheed S71 fast, long range, strategic aircraft!. The Carbon Metal BB is a well thought out progression of an existing principal - used by Continental anglers. Longer rods for lighter line fishing to cast big distances “at a stroke”.

The BB reduces the need to develop advanced casting styles and can help deliver considerable extra distance without changing from the most common overhead casting styles. It is thus easier to upgrade from rods where the angler has already developed certain skills and just wants get down to the serious business of fishing. We have worked extensively on the design of BB and in the process achieved a World Record cast of 229m using fixed spool reel - however Century does not recommend this rod for exclusive grass court - tournament work.

Global warming and commercial over fishing are driving traditional fish stocks away from existing habitats towards deeper and cooler waters. This has influenced our design thinking and we are looking to satisfy enthusiastic shore anglers who wish to pursue their sport under these changing conditions. Species such as pout, sea bass, John Dory and red mullet are increasingly populating more northerly latitudes and this presents new opportunities for dedicated designs like the Carbon Metal BB. We have received positive feedback on BB’s power to weight ratio and this benefit inevitably assists the roving angler.

The BB is highly effective using fixed spool or multiplier reels. We recommend 6lb - 10lb lines on fixed spool and 10 - 20lb lines on multipliers (use fingerstalls on fixed spool)
